What Are CBD Suppositories?

CBD suppositories are an ideal product choice for many due to their fast-acting and fast absorption qualities. These supplements are designed for rectal or vaginal use (as directed on the product label). In contrast to CBD tinctures or capsules, CBD suppositories are formulated to be inserted into the rectal or vaginal cavity whereby they are absorbed directly into the bloodstream. While this method of consumption may not be suited for everyone, many people prefer CBD suppositories over other types of CBD products for several reasons.

What Are the Benefits of CBD Suppositories?

CBD suppositories offer fast-acting relief because they are able to be absorbed directly into the bloodstream via the anal or vaginal mucous membrane. Given the concentrated amount of blood capillaries present in both passages, CBD suppositories are quickly absorbed and circulate throughout the body. For many, this method of consumption is favorable when compared to other types of CBD products. Here are several reasons why:

CBD Suppositories Avoid the Digestive System

CBD capsules and edibles must pass through the digestive system where they are broken down by stomach acid.  As a result, by the time they make it into your bloodstream, fewer of the beneficial nutrients are present. CBD suppositories, on the other hand, do not have to endure the digestion process, and instead, can be directly absorbed into the bloodstream. This often means that more of the beneficial qualities of CBD end up circulating throughout the body, providing the relief the consumer is looking for.

With CBD Suppositories, You Avoid the Taste of Hemp

Some people just aren’t crazy about the earthy taste often associated with hemp-based CBD products that are designed to be taken orally. CBD suppositories offer an alternative method of consumption, making it possible to avoid the taste altogether.

CBD Suppositories Are Faster Acting

Compared to CBD edibles, tinctures, or capsules, CBD suppositories generally take effect faster due to the rapid rate of absorption in the anal/vaginal capillaries. For individuals who are seeking quick relief, CBD suppositories offer a convenient option.

CBD Suppositories Are Popular for Relief from Menstrual Pain

Given that CBD is an effective anti-inflammatory and pain relieving supplement, many women turn to CBD suppositories to relieve common menstrual cramps and pain.

How to Use CBD Suppositories

As with all of the products we offer here at Botanicam, we clearly indicate directions for use on both the product label and the corresponding pages on our website. You will find that our suppositories are marked for vaginal use, anal use, or both. CBD suppositories should be stored in a cold place or refrigerated since they need to be firm to be inserted correctly.

How to Use CBD Rectal Suppositories

While we strongly urge you to read our directions for use listed on the product label and website page, here are some general tips when administering rectal CBD suppositories:

  1. Ensure that your CBD suppositories are cooled before insertion (as they should be firm).
  2. Lie down sideways in a comfortable position and pull your knees up to your chest.
  3. If the suppository is not lubricated, a water-based lubricant—or one of our CBD lubricants—is recommended.
  4. Use your index finger to insert the suppository into your rectum, pointed end first.
  5. Push the suppository approximately 2.5-4cm into your rectum, past the anal sphincter muscle.
  6. Continue to lie down for the following 2-3 minutes while clenching your sphincter to ensure that the suppository stays in place.

How to Use CBD Vaginal Suppositories

We highly recommend that you read our directions for use listed on the label of our vaginal CBD suppository products or on the website page. However, here are some general guidelines you can use when facilitating vaginal CBD suppositories:

  1. Ensure that your CBD suppositories are cooled before insertion to guarantee that they are firm.
  2. Lie comfortably on your back
  3. If the suppository is unlubricated, an intimate lubricant may be used to allow for easier insertion. Be sure only to use water-based lubricants.
  4. Gently insert the pointed end of the suppository into your vagina approximately 3-4 inches deep.
  5. Relax and let the suppository to absorb into the tissue of your cervix and uterus for about 10-20 minutes.
