What Are CBD Tinctures?

With so many CBD products to choose from, it can often be challenging to select a starting point for newcomers into the world of hemp-based CBD. CBD oil tinctures are among the most versatile of products because they are easy to use, easy to store, and come in a variety of delicious flavors to enjoy. Before we review how to use CBD tinctures, let's go over some essentials first.

CBD tinctures are dietary supplements that are manufactured by steeping CBD-rich hemp flowers in high-proof alcohol, glycerin, or vinegar. This is then heated at a low temperature for several hours to extract the cannabidiol content. This mixture is most often cooked over a low temperature to avoid burning off any of the beneficial chemicals the CBD flower contains. After this step in the process is complete, the extract is often mixed with a sweet-tasting carrier oil to counter the naturally bitter taste of CBD oil. The end result should be a potent mixture containing very high levels of CBD with less than 0.3% THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). While some CBD tinctures contain detectable THC levels in the 0.01%-0.3% range, we also offer CBD oil tinctures with 0% THC content. This brings us to our next topic–the difference between full spectrum and broad spectrum CBD tinctures.

What Are Full Spectrum CBD Tinctures?

Full Spectrum CBD tinctures offer CBD from CBD-rich industrial hemp flowers that are distilled with alcohol at a low temperature. This produces a product that contains all compounds naturally found within the plant. In addition to the CBD content, this includes terpenes, essential oils, and very low amounts of THC (smaller than 0.3%). Recent studies have supported the hypothesis that full spectrum CBD offers higher levels of pain relief and other benefits compared to CBD in its isolated form. It has been found that the array of nutrient-rich organic chemicals contained in Full Spectrum CBD may work synergistically to magnify the benefits of each individual cannabinoid—this is known as the “entourage effect.” However, full spectrum CBD tinctures are not for everyone due to their very minimal THC content, which has the potential to show up on drug tests. For this reason, we also offer broad spectrum CBD tinctures.

What Are Broad Spectrum CBD Tinctures?

Similar to full spectrum CBD products, broad spectrum CBD retains many of the same terpenes, essential oils, and other cannabinoids that create the “entourage” benefit. However, unlike full spectrum CBD, the THC content has been entirely removed. The process of making broad spectrum CBD tinctures often involves extracting the chemicals at higher temperatures. In doing so, all THC content is burned off. However, this process may burn off other potentially beneficial cannabinoids. Broad spectrum CBD tinctures are ideal for those who prefer to avoid the intake of THC altogether.

How To Take CBD Oil Tinctures

As you read about each of our products, you will find that we carefully outline the directions for use on every page. However, as a general note, our CBD oil tinctures are designed for sublingual use, which involves merely placing the measured amount underneath your tongue and holding it there for about 30 seconds. Research suggests that by dropping the oil underneath your tongue, the body can absorb the nutrients into your bloodstream faster.

Most CBD oil tinctures come with a built-in dropper, generally 1ml in volume. Although doses may vary between products, use the included dropper to measure out the recommended amount outlined in the directions. When administering the oil sublingually, hold the extract underneath your tongue for at least a minute to allow the oil to be absorbed by the sublingual artery. Simply swallow any remaining liquid after allowing sufficient time for sublingual absorption.

Sublingual dosing is typically the recommended way to ingest CBD oil. However, those who dislike the hemp taste may choose to mix it into soups, coffee, water, and even it to protein shakes. These methods are also excellent, so long as the advised dosage is adhered to.

CBD Tincture Dosage

Several factors go into finding the correct dose for an individual. The size of the user, CBD potency, and the nature of the issue being treated all play a part in advising a proper dose. While too much CBD will not cause an overdose, excess CBD consumption can definitely be a waste of money when the desired outcome requires a lower dosage.

As a general rule of thumb, most professionals advise 1-6mg of CBD be taken for every 10 pounds of an individual’s body weight. As an example, a patient who weighs 150lbs would typically take between 15-25mg.
